QPR came in to the 2002 – 2003 season with hope of promotion back into the first division; however despite finishing off the campaign in an impressive fourth position, they could not surpass the play off competition.
The 2003 – 2004 campaign saw Ian Holloway guide Rangers straight into automatic promotion at the end of the campaign as they finished the season off in second position. They crashed out of the league cup in the third round as they suffered defeat against Manchester City and were eliminated out of the FA Cup in the first round as they suffered defeat against Grimsby Town.
Queens Park Rangers first season back in the second tier of English football was decent as they finished off the season in a decent top half position finish of 11th position. They ere fortunate at the end of the 2005 – 2006 campaign to still be in the championship as they finished that season off in 21st position, narrowly escaping relegation.
